Geocache Description:

Her findes en stejl skråning.

English:
The landscape we can observe today on the Stevns peninsula, was formed during the last Ice Age, the Weichselian glaciation, which ended around 10.000 years ago. A glacier moved from the Baltic Sea in north-easterly direction, and formed the relatively flat moraine with fertile soil, which the farmers of the area exploit.

Close to the small town Klippinge, however, the landscape differs, showing characteristic hills called "Mountains of Klippinge". The term mountains may be classified as a moderate exaggeration, since their height is only approx. 40 m above sea level. It should however be viewed in light of the fact that Denmark is a relatively flat country.
Klippinge Mountains are also formed in the Ice Age. The glacier caused cracks, which in connection with ice melting became lakes. On the surface of the glacier melting water formed rivers, that carried materials like gravel and stones. When the melting water rivers ran into the ice ponds, sediments were deposited on the bottom of the pond. As the glacier melted, hills were formed where the lakes had been. Klippinge Mountains are the result of such a process. Characteristic of ice pond hills is that their tops are relatively flat, and of the same height.

Numerous finds of stone tools in the surrounding soils indicate that the area has been inhabited since the Stone Age. At Klippinge Mountains discoveries were made also from the Bronze Age.
Today the mountains are owned by a farmer and the farm is build on the hillside so there is no public access to the area. Visitors are kindly asked to respect this.

To log the cache you must:
Optional: If you like take a picture on the reported coordinates, showing the surrounding or if you like yourself and your GPS with the mountains in the background
Send an email to us answering the following two questions:
1. How many hilltops does Klippinge Mountains consist of?
2. On the southernmost hill, right next to the road there is an uncultivated field. The hill forms a steep slope. Make an estimate of the vertical height of the slope in meters.

You do not have to wait for our response to log the cache on geocaching.com. If the answers are wrong, we will contact you.
You cannot log the cache as found until you upload the photo.
