Geocache Description:

Karup på Krigsstien - Slavekrigen
Karup on the warpath - The War of the slaves

In the time around the 3-Years War between Denmark and Germany (1848-1851) was rumors that 600 prisoners (also called slaves) had been released from the prison in Rendsburg. Now, said the rumors that they were on their way north, while they ravaged and plundered wherever they went. The rumors also reached Karup, which established a voluntary militia. Soon more than 70 men trained eksersits and other war art every Sunday morning. A while later it was from the "highest point " ordered that there should be established a platoon of young unmarried men. The platoon was on 31 males and had to confront the slaves at Gedhus south of Karup. However, as the platoon was established 30 men and one woman went to war (Why Dorra Håll went to war, can be read on the infosign at the sculpture). How long time the platoon was established is unknown, but it never went into battle. It turned out that the rumors were pure fiction.

The cache is placed with good views to the sculpture, Karup Church and Karup River Valley.
