Barrow Cemetery in Norway
The burial site at Vang in Oppdal is the second largest known iron age burial site in Norway (possibly the largest), only rivaled by the burial site at Einang in Oppland. It is also one of the largest known in Scandinavia.
It has probably been in use for more than 500 years, until Christianity were introduced in the early 1000 AD.
It contains about 750 to 800 known burial mounds, and possibly countless flat-terrain burials without any grave markings. The burial mounds range from large to small, from between 15-17 meters in diameter to less than 3 meters across. And from 2-3 meters tall to lower than a half meter.
The area has been cleared of forest and the area has been made possible for tourists to explore and watch. In fact, its almost impossible to walk more than 3 metres without stepping on a burial mound! The burial mounds are easy to see as the small bushes and trees have been cleared and the mounds are covered in short grass. As you walk trough this site, it is impossible to think of how many people were actually living in this are in the iron age, and how their lives were like...
Over sju hundre gravhauger er registrert, men sannsynligvis finnes det også et betydelig antall graver under flat mark.

Gravfeltet på Vang er Skandinavias nest største fra førkristen tid.
Dette var felles gravplass for 20-40 gårder i 700 år eller mer, fram til tiden rundt år 1000, da kristendommen ble innført. og inneholder bortimot 800 gravhauger. Gårdene disponerte hver sin del av gravfeltet. Ulike redskaper og eiendeler fulgte ofte de døde i gravene.
