Den här dagen (6 december) är St Nickolaus dag. Eller Nikolaos of Myra som han egentligen hette. Han bodde i dåvarande Grekland, men det ligger i turkiet nu. Han är förebilden för vår jultomte. Hans namn blev Sinterklaas på holländska och sedan Santa Claus.

Enligt sägnerna så gav han hemliga presenter och lade pengar i skor som folk stält ut. I en del länder betraktas det här som den egentliga julafton och barnen får godis.

December 6 is the day of St Nicholaus. His name was originally Nikolaos of Myra and he lived in Greece. But the area now belong to Turkey. He is the model for our Santa Claus. His name became Sinterklaas in dutch and then Santa Claus. He was famous for giving gifts in secret and placing coins in peoples shoes. In some countries this is considered the real christmas and the kids receive candy.
