KONGEVEGEN GJENNOM ØVRE DALEN - GRIHAMAR
Kongevegen var i stor grad ei utbetring av den gamle allfarvegen, eller postvegen, men nokre stader valde ein heilt nye vegliner, som her gjennom Øvre Dalen. Det var generalvegintendant Peder Anker, ein av landets mektigaste menn på den tida, som stakk ut Kongevegen på austsida av Filefjell, og vegarbeidet vart gjort av både militære og bønder på pliktarbeid. I Øvre Dalen bygde ein truleg vegen i åra 1792-1794, og løytnant Johan Jørgen Krohn, som leidde arbeidet, rapporterte at «heile» allmugen måtte delta i pliktarbeidet.
Gardane Opdal og Skogstad i Øvre Dalen hadde frå gammalt av ulike oppgåver knytt til ferdsla. Heilt sidan Postverket vart skipa i 1647 var Opdal postbondegard med ansvar for å frakte posten over Filefjell og ned til dei øvste gardane i Borgund. Skogstad på si side har vore gjestgjevargard frå 1663 og vart seinare skysstasjon - den siste før Filefjell på Valdressida. Det var såleis deira oppgåve å skysse folk over Filefjell, og det var ei tung bør vinterstid.
KONGEVEGEN OVER FILEFJELL
Då den Bergenske Kongeveg vart bygd på slutten av 1700-talet, fekk ein for fyrste gong køyreveg mellom Aust- og Vestlandet. I dag er den gamle Kongevegen eitt av dei finaste veghistoriske kulturminna vi har. Den 10 mil lange vandreruta Kongevegen over Filefjell tek deg gjennom nokre av dei vakraste landskapa i Noreg. Frå tronge og dramatiske fjordlandskap inst i Sognefjorden, via høgfjellet på Filefjell, og ned i innlandsbygdene i Valdres. Ei reise mellom landsdelane - med den historiske Kongevegen som den raude tråden undervegs. Der vegen er borte nyttar ein andre trasear, slik at det blir ein samanhengande turveg frå Lærdalsøyri til Vang. Syklistar har alternative ruter utanom dei mest sårbare delane av Kongevegen.
KONGEVEGEN THROUGH ØVRE DALEN - GRIHAMAR
Kongevegen was, in general, an improvement of the old pack-horse track, or postal route, but at some locations completely new stretches of road were built – such as here through Øvre Dalen. It was Intendant-General of Roads, Peder Anker, one of the country’s most powerful men at the time, who decided the course of the Kongevegen route on the eastern side of Filefjell, and the work was carried out by soldiers and farmers duty-bound to help with the project. The section through Øvre Dalen was probably built during the period 1792–1794, and Lieutenant Johan Jørgen Krohn, who supervised the work, made known that “all peasants” had a duty to participate in the work.
The farms Opdal and Skogstad in Øvre Dalen were already charged with various transport-related tasks to perform. When Postverket, the national postal service, was established in 1647, Opdal had become a posting inn with the responsibility of carrying mail across Filefjell and down to the uppermost farms in Borgund. Skogstad, on the other hand, had operated as a guest house since 1663, and later became a coaching inn – the last stop before Filefjell on the Valdres side. It was their task to get people safely across Filefjell, and this was a heavy burden during winter.
KONGEVEGEN OVER FILEFJELL Bergenske Kongeveg, built at the end of the 1700s, was the first proper road between eastern and western Norway. Today, the old Kongevegen is one of our most beautiful cultural heritage routes. The 100 km Kongevegen across Filefjell walk leads through some of Norway's most spectacular scenery.
