Her skal du oppsøke de oppgitte koordinatene. Denne typen kombinerer en vanlig tradisjonell cache og bruk av stempel. Stempelet er ment å forbli i cachen og brukes av geocachere til å registrere besøket.


Da Andreas M. Paulsen skulle legge ny potetåker på gården Steinvik i 1902 kom han over ei meget innholdsrik vikinggrav. I denne grava ble det funnet et tveegget sverd av jern. Sverdet var rikt utstyrt med dyreornamenter på innlagte plater av bronse, flettet tråd og strimler av sølv og kobber. Sverdet var trolig laget i Norge, da ornamentet av gripedyr er av samme type som man finner på Osebergfunnet fra samme tidsperiode.

Sverdet er et av de fineste vikingvåpene som er funnet, og går under betegnelsen Steinsviksverdet. Sverdet står nå utstilt på Universitetets Oldsaksamling i Oslo. Men det er utstilt en kopi av sverdet som henger på veggen inne på Tjeldsund kommunehus. Dette er synlig på høyre vegg om man ser inn vinduet på forsiden av bygget, eller man kan gå inn og studere sverdet nøyere i kommunens åpningstider.

Here you need to visit the posted coordinates. This cache combines a traditional cache and the use of a rubber stamp. The rubber stamp is not a trade item but intended to stay within the cache.



When Andreas M. Paulsen was making a new potato field in 1902, he came across an old viking grave. In this grave there was many thing, among others a double-edged sword of iron. The sword was richly equipped with animal ornaments in bronze, braided wire and silver and copper strips. The sword was probably made in Norway, as the ornament was of the same type as found in Oseberg from the same time period.

The sword is one of the finest Viking weapons that have been found, and goes under the name Steinsviksverdet, since it was found on the farm Steinvik. The sword is now on display at the University's Collection of cultural history in Oslo. But there is a copy of the sword that hangs on the wall inside Tjeldsund Municipality House. This is visible on the right wall if you look into the window at the front of the building, or you can go in and study the sword more closely in the municipality's opening hours.
