Find the cache, stay for the fun

The Center is a living history museum focusing on the time period from around 1820 to 1920. Farming and ranching during that time was not easy. Utah is an arid environment. Much irrigation had to be done for crops to grow. Preparing fields required breaking up hard, very rocky soil. Eventually the hard work of the pioneers paid off. The area around the Center is called Cache Valley. It's become known for dairy products, especially cheese, and peaches.

A word about the name of the valley. There are a lot of geocaches here but that's not the reason for the name. Before and during the time the pioneers were trying to farm this land, mountain men used the area for rendezvouses and to store or cache their supplies.  Yes, that's the origins of the name of our hobby! Cache derives from the French verb, cacher, meaning "to hide."

Although the Center focuses on the farmers and ranchers, you'll find some information here about the mountain men too. In fact the annual Mountain Man festival holds their event here annually.
