This is one of the most seen public pieces of art in Washington State, but it remains unfinished to this day. The original concept for this work included a 36-foot-high steel basket, tipped on its side, with two horses still inside and 16 more galloping away from it. Only sufficient funds were raised, however to complete the art in its current state in 1990. David Govedare, the artist, created it as a tribute to the wild horses that once roamed in this area.
Note that the trail from the parking area to the sculpture is a steep one, with loose gravel. In warm weather months, this area could be frequented by rattlesnakes, so stay sharp!

The artist had decorated the rear legs of some of the horses with metal shapes, welded to the sculptures. Some of the horses have decorations on both sides, some only on one side, some have no decorations at all
1. Describe at least two of the shapes that the artist used on the rear legs (thighs) of the horses.
2. Of the 16 horses, how many have decorations welded on their left (east) rear legs (thighs)?

Apparently the gate at the start of the road from I-90 is gated during the winter. I'm not sure what dictates when that gate is closed, but all indications seem to be that it's closed between late November and late March. Folks have parked at the gate and walked all the way up. I'm not sure if that's kosher or not, but it adds about 1/4 mile to the hike.
