Geocache Description:

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO THIS SERIES, PLEASE CONTACT THE SERIES OWNER (SEE BELOW)

We are often told (correctly, if somewhat ideologically), that geocaches should take us to somewhere "interesting", and not simply be placed just for the sake of it. The aim of this series is to try and adhere to this ideal by basing caches around details given on an Information Board about the area in which it is situated. By definition, it is hoped that this information will be "interesting", and will help the cacher discover things about the area that would often not be revealed by a traditional cache.

The listing co-ordinates will take you to Dale Gardens a small open space directly behind Carrs Lane Church, on Carrs Lane itself. Carrs Lane can be busy at all times of day due to the number of bus stops and the close proximity to Moor Street train station.

There has been a worshipping community in Carrs Lane since 1748. From 1832, Carrs Lane Church belonged to the newly-formed Congregational Union, which became part of the United Reformed Church when the English Presbyterian and Congregational churches merged in 1972. The Congregational Church built the third Chapel on the site, which stood from 1820 to 1970. Its most famous minister was Dr R W Dale, an influential Victorian who preached The Civic Gospel and drew large crowds from all over the country to hear him.

The Heritage Boards, which tell the story of Carrs Lane, are situated on the grass of Dale Gardens. From these boards you will need to use the instructions below to build a sentence that will tell you where the final hide is. In each case you will need to look in the correct numbered section, then count down the correct number of lines and then the correct number of words along.

For example, if the code says 1-2-3 you would need to go to section 1, down to line 2 and then take the third word, which in this case would be 'called'. If it said 1-2-3 (-ed) then you would end up with 'call'

Section-Line-Word

13-4-2
1-8-7
26-4-13
20-6-1
4-4-3
17-3-3
26-1-1
7-6-6
12-10-11
2-2-6

14-18-6 (-ed)
24-1-10

25-10-4 (-out)
19-3-1 (-takings)
24-2-10
22-1-13
20-1-6

I hope that you find this an interesting variation on the caching experience. For a full list of all FYI caches in the series, please go to this bookmark. If you would like to add to the series, please contact Airtomoreira, by emailing him via the geocaching website, or at fyigeocaching@outlook.com. He will allocate a series number to you, and give you some general guidance for placing your cache. If you already have a cache based on an Information Board, and would like to add it to the series, that would be no problem, again, please contact him for a series number.
