Geocache Description:

Inspiration Point Vista Parking Lot. Just off Hwy 89 North before Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe. A hundred foot walk on paved asphalt and paths to the scenic overview area. Altitude 6879 feet.

Loving Lake Tahoe and other adjacent areas as I do, I chose this scenic area to have you stop, look, and breathe in the beauty.
Although a hidden cache may be more challenging to locate, I have the following reasons why I have placed this virtual cache:
Several of my hidden caches were stolen.
You can visit it in all four seasons, pending any road
closures due to heavy snow, which are only temporary anyway.
It is easier to find, if that is your desire.
It is situated in what I feel is the most scenic
location.

WARNING: Muggles, heavily populating this area especially in the height of the summer season (June through early September) and even more so on summer weekends, have been an on-going nuisance and distraction expressed by many geocachers.
Also, during this period, the extreme popularity of this area lends itself to severe traffic congestion and difficulty in finding parking places close by to the cache. If you can plan to visit in the early morning during summer, you will experience much less of these problems. Also, less congested months are March (if we have an early and light snow season) to May, and late September to early November prior to our regular snow season which imposes road restrictions.
It is unfortunate for these occurences, but that is the price we have to pay for such a popular, famous and beautiful spot.

Inspiration Point Vista is just over 8 miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe on Hwy 89 North. Enjoy a beautiful drive on Tahoe's West Shore area through large pine forests and up a breathtaking narrow ridge separating Cascade Lake and Emerald Bay.

Just before you start driving down the ridge into Emerald Bay, there is a well-marked and obvious viewpoint area with a sign saying: Inspiration Point Vista. Turn right into this parking area and follow the paved foot path to the vista point. The view is spectacular. In the middle of the bay, your eyes will see a fairy-tale looking island with a rock house perched on it. And you will see more: beaches, a historic mansion, boats, sharp rising peaks, and a good portion of the brilliant blue Lake Tahoe.

To verify your find, post a photo of you next to the metal railing, or any background with the information signs, Emerald Bay in the background, etc.

SUGGESTION: You may want to stop at Eagle Falls and hike to Eagle Lake, or hike down to the Vikingsholm. These areas are worth the hour (one way) hike.

TO FURTHER EXTEND your around-the-lake virtual scenic caches, I highly recommend you visit SNSpencer's scenic area virtual caches which include: Lakeview for You, Logan Shoals, Memorial Point Scenic Outlook, The King's Beach, and Ponderosa Relic Ranch. Visit any of these geocaching web pages for further detail.

Enjoy,
