This is a very beautiful spot, with a view of the Front Range of the Big Horns, and the site of the old fort. You will be able to answer these questions once you have arrived, but don't stare at one spot for too long, as you may miss the experience, like the mountains. When was the fort abandoned, and when was it founded. Also, where was its' location before this site, and what calvary unit was stationed at Fort Mckinney? Please e-mail me the answers. Thank you. One can follow the trail, that the cache is on, (It runs parallel to Hwy for a little bit) west, up through the canyon and into the Big Horns, where postcard pictures will await you. One can see the site of the old fort, by heading east, then south, into what is now The Veterans Home of Wyoming, where they have a diarama and artfacts in there recreation hall of times gone by.
